Are Email Addresses Verified Before Download or Export?

BookYourData verifies every email address in real time before download, assigning DELIVERABLE, UNDELIVERABLE, or RISKY so you know what's safe to mail.

Written by Mark Giz

BookYourData verifies every email address in real time before download or export.

Each address receives one of three response codes, DELIVERABLE, UNDELIVERABLE, or RISKY, that shows whether it is safe to mail before you spend a credit.

How Real-Time Verification Works

BookYourData verifies each address at the moment of download or export and assigns one of three response codes based on that check.

Verification is one factor behind BookYourData's overall data accuracy, and it works alongside the sourcing process described in how BookYourData compiles its data.

The Three Response Codes

Every verified address falls into one of three categories, each with its own mailing guidance:

Response Code

What It Means

Mailing Guidance

DELIVERABLE

A valid email account exists for the address, verified 100% accurate at the time of download.

Safe to email.

UNDELIVERABLE

The address is invalid, for reasons documented under Secondary Statuses.

Do not email. Downloading requires approval first.

RISKY

The receiving server accepts mail for every address at the domain, a catch-all setup that risks later filtering or bouncing through a firewall or spam tool.

A bounce threshold of 5% or less on your Email Service Provider means do not mail. A dedicated IP from your Email Service Provider means mail slowly.

Deliverable Only vs. Deliverable and Risky at Export

The export screen offers two filters, Deliverable Only and Deliverable & Risky.

Deliverable Only limits the file to verified, valid addresses and keeps bounce risk to a minimum. Deliverable & Risky includes both categories in one file.

Credits apply only to the emails included in the download, so excluding RISKY or UNDELIVERABLE addresses at export also lowers the credit cost for that file.

FAQ

Are credits charged for emails I do not download?
No. Credits apply only to the emails included in your download, so leaving UNDELIVERABLE or RISKY addresses out of the file also keeps them off your credit total.

Is a RISKY address safe to mail?
Mailing guidance for RISKY addresses depends on your Email Service Provider's bounce threshold and dedicated IP status. A threshold of 5% or less means do not mail. A dedicated IP means mail slowly.

Do BeSpoke lists get the same verification?
Yes. BeSpoke lists pass the same real-time verification before delivery, under the same 97% deliverability guarantee that covers every BookYourData download. See how BeSpoke sourcing works.
