Until recently, rent payments were not a consideration for credit scores because rent is not considered debt. At Boom, we report rent payments to all three major credit bureaus, Experian, Equifax and Transunion, which then will appear on all credit reports.

Using the data found on the credit report, a credit score can be determined. FICO and VantageScore are the two major credit score companies and both companies vary in how they use rent payment data.

FICO

  • FICO 9, FICO 10 and FICO XD all consider rent payments when determining credit scores

  • FICO 8 does not consider rent payments

VantageScore

  • VantageScore 3.0 and 4.0 consider rent payments when determining credit scores.

Please note that VantageScore was created through a joint venture between all three major credit bureaus.
