Creating a Calendar Widget
As Bound staff, we can generate a Calendar Widget that schools can integrate directly into their website. This is especially useful for schools that prefer to keep users within their ecosystem, as the calendar widget pulls live schedule data, eliminating the need to direct link out to our site.
Ex: New London Schools
Widgets are created on the Bound platform as raw code, with schools embedding that code onto their site. As a Bound admin, you need to simply generate that widget code, copy it to your clipboard, and send it to the proper school contact.
Follow the steps below to create widget's for a school looking to integrate our calendar into their site.
In the Dashboard, navigate to Events > Widgets.
Click + Add New Widget.
Select the Widget Type. You will need to interface with whoever embeds this widget into the school site to determine which type fits best. The type of widget will depend heavily on where the calendar will live on the website, as the types differ in size.
Customize the widget as you desire. Most users will benefit from leaving these settings on their defaults.
After customizing, click Save Widget.
After saving, a Preview of the widget will display here. For full sized calendar widgets, you may need to scroll down to see the preview.
Once you've verified that the preview looks good, copy the embed code for the widget and send it to the proper contact. The school will need to take that embed code and paste it on to their site from there.
Direct Links
Direct links are merely a Bound Calendar URL pasted to a school's site.
Go to the School's Public Page, then click Calendar.
Copy the URL (CTRL+S; Left-click > Copy). Only copy the URL to the word Calendar.
Provide the URL to the school's website manager. The URL copied here can be simply pasted to the school's website, and the school can customize where/how this link is integrated.
Feeds
Feeds are datasets pulled from Bound in the form of iCal, RSS, or JSON files. Feeds have a significant drawback when compared to widget or direct link integration as feeds do not regularly update.
Navigate to Events > Feeds.
Click + Add New Feed.
Enter a name for the feed and select the date range.
Select an activity, or, If no activities are selected, then all activities are included in the feed.
Click Create Feed.
Click the (i) icon on the Feed you want to integrate.
From the pop-up that opens, select iCal, RSS, or JSON as the filetype. Work with the school's website manager to determine which file type is best suited for integration.
That's all that needs to be completed on Bound's end.
FAQ
Q: What's the difference between a widget and simply providing a link to our calendar site?
A: Schools can link to our calendar page(s), and some schools may prefer to, but a widget essentially embeds that calendar into an external (Non-Bound) website, keeping you on that school website
