Hey there Breakthrough Partner! Here's information on why your payout may be less than expected. We've also put this explanation into video format, click here for the video if that's preferred!
Having an app is amazing for many reasons. One of those reasons is it is REALLY easy for consumers to pay for a product. This ease is brought to us by Apple and Google where they have credit cards tied to the respective App Store user accounts.
The Apple & Google accounting practices are a bit complex. They make it so the amount you see in Revenue Cat or Google Play or App Store Connect will be different than what you actually get paid into your account. So if you are wondering why the payout you get is lower than you had expected please read the reasons below.
First of all, you may already know this, but know that there is a 45 day delay in getting the payout from after the month when the consumer made the purchase. So for example, if a consumer bought a subscription from the app in June, the payout you will get for June will be in the mid-August payout.
So the reasons, why the payouts are different:
The BIGGEST reason is that Apple runs on its OWN fiscal accounting calendar rather than a normal calendar month. What this means simply is if you are expecting a payout for June, Apple's payout will be for the transactions that happened from May 29th to June 25th. So what this means is in your payout the transactions from June 26-31st were not included! WHY THE F*** DO THEY DO THAT YOU ASK? Apple looks at Sunday to Sunday full calendar weeks in their accounting. See more details here by Revenue Cat
Currency conversions! Even though the sales happen in the month, we get the money transferred from Apple & Google on the exchange rate at the end of the following month. So for example: if a user in the Canada bought the app in February, the money gets transferred based on the exchange rate in March . The number that will reflect in iTunes connect is based on a different, standard exchange rate. The complexities of online, international business
Some countries have withholding of money transfer until there is a certain threshold of sales (South Korea, for example, has a threshold of $50 before paying out).
Potential Refunds. If a user requested a refund, this is taken out of the payout, but takes a few weeks to show in Revenue Cat.
