We know the idea of app content creation can be overwhelming! To help you plan and shoot your content efficiently for your app, we've put together some of our best practices for filming.
Background
Your background says a lot about you! Make yourself the focus!
Avoid a busy background or people moving though the frame.
Make sure you are not cut out of the frame
Lighting
Set up in a well lit space with the primary light in front of you.
Avoid a lot of backlighting. (which will make you appear dark)
Avoid dim lighting. (which will make you look pixilated)
Be conscious of shadows. (which can happen with side lighting)
Tips:
You can rent a well lit space at a gym or studio to film content in bulk.
Studio lighting is cheap, and can make a big difference. Try these lights.
Sound
For exercises and routines sound will automatically be muted in the app
For Classes:
Sound is very important for the user experience. Therefore, ALWAYS use an external microphone.
β
Good: You can try using wireless headphones
Better: For better sound quality we recommend using a cordless mic
Best: For best sound quality use a microphone and a headset
Recommendations:
If you are filming on your phone you will need this adaptor for the iPhone for the Rode Mic
Video Quality and Orientation:
Filming can be done on a phone. A high quality camera is NOT necessary.
Filming quality:
Record in 720p or 1080p (720p is great too if you are doing longer videos. The video quality comes out perfect for both)
Do NOT record at 4K
Frame per second: 30
Max size of content 5 GB
Preferred file type: MP4
Note: iPhone MOV can be used but they are much larger, and will increase upload time.
Video Orientation:
Classes:
We recommend horizontal/ landscape for best experience and optimization of casting.
Routines:
MUST be recorded in landscape
For optimal user experience Video should be <20 sec.
Video will be played in loop for the time of that exercise.
Tips and Intros:
For short inspirational videos of you speaking to your followers (ie. think Instagram story) you can record in Vertical because thy will most likely watch these while holding their phone.
