Recently Google and Yahoo announced a new rule: bulk senders must include DMARC by February 2024. If you send marketing emails to 5000 recipients or more using these providers, your email domain needs a DMARC policy in your DNS by February 2024. Messages failing to meet this requirement may not get delivered. This applies to emails sent on behalf of your organization by third-party email service providers (ESPs) like Flodesk and MailChimp using your email domain.

Key components of the new protocols include Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance (DMARC) policies, aligning Sender Policy Framework (SPF) and DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM), and simplifying unsubscribes. Bulk senders must meet higher authentication criteria if they exceed 5,000 daily emails to Gmail accounts. Google has issued comprehensive Email Sender Guidelines to help navigate these changes effectively. It's important to familiarize yourselves with these guidelines and implement the necessary measures to ensure compliance and deliverability of the emails you send to your customers.

We prepared some simple the step-by-step instructions on how to configure your domain settings to comply with the updated authentication protocols:

  1. Visit your domain provider's website (e.g., Squarespace, GoDaddy).

  2. Add a DNS TXT record named _dmarc (if not already existing).

    • TXT record name: _dmarc.yourdomain.com

    • TXT record value: Insert the following text for your DMARC record: v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:dmarc-reports@yourdomain.com

By implementing it, you'll make the first important step towards DMARC compliance.
You'll be able to ensure your emails will be delivered to your audience, keep launching your campaigns, and maintain a normal conversion rates.
