Goal Progress & Status

How progress is measured

Progress can be tracked in two ways:

% complete (e.g., 40% done)
KPI metrics (e.g., counts, dollars, %, time in ms, etc.

Note: KPI metrics can be 'auto-tracked' with your tools via Integrations

Expected progress (how Brev knows what “on track” means)

When a goal has a time period (e.g., Q1, Q2, FY 2026) or an expected completion window, Brev calculates an expected progress value for where you should be today.

Expected progress appears in your Goal details quick view, on the check-in dialogue (above), and when you hover over any of the goals in your main List View.

Brev uses expected progress to:

Set status (ie. On Track, Behind, At Risk)
Determine color (green, yellow, red)
Auto-suggest goal status/color during automated check-ins and updates

Goal status options

Brev supports these best-practice statuses:

Not Started
On Track
Behind
At Risk
Postponed
Completed

How status is automatically determined

By default, Brev compares actual progress to expected progress:

On Track: progress is equal to or above expected
Behind: progress is below expected by 0–25%
At Risk: progress is more than 25% below expected

You can override status

Status and progress are related—but not locked together. You can manually set a status if reality is different than the numbers (e.g., behind on progress but still confident you’ll deliver, or ahead on progress but risk is rising).

How progress/status gets updated (check-in modes)

You can choose how Brev updates progress and status:

Children roll up (default)
Parent goals automatically update progress + status based on their child's goals
Manual
Requires manual check-ins, and progress is updated manually.
Integrated check-in (auto-track)
Progress updates automatically from connected systems when the tracked KPI changes.

Success check: Your goals stay accurately colored and statused based on expected progress—while still giving you the ability to override when the real-world context matters.
