How do I change my School's Common App Integration Status

BridgeU is excited to be an integration partner of the Common Application.

Each year at the end of the application cycle, we will send an email to your school to inform you about pairing with the Common App integration. Read below to learn more about changing your school's BridgeU<>Common App integration status.

How do I know if my school has the BridgeU-Common App integration enabled?

The BridgeU-Common App integration is available to BridgeU schools. There are a few ways you will know if your school has the integration enabled:

  • Your school receives an email from BridgeU to confirm that the integration will be enabled for your school for the upcoming application cycle.

  • You will be able to manage Common App and Parchment document submission for graduating students from the Document Sending tab.

  • Students will be able to navigate to their account settings and will see the option to pair their common app account with their BridgeU account.

When students pair their Common App account with BridgeU, they should not invite teachers or counsellor recommenders through Common App. All recommender invitations must be sent through BridgeU.

If students invited teachers or counsellors through Common App before pairing their accounts, they must remove those recommendation requests from Common App. Existing Common App invitations can prevent recommenders from submitting their recommendations through BridgeU.

Managing recommendation requests across both Common App and BridgeU can lead to discrepancies and incomplete records. For example, documents submitted directly through Common App will not sync with BridgeU, which may disrupt your school's workflows and record-keeping. To ensure a smooth application process, manage all recommendation requests exclusively through BridgeU.

If you’re unsure of the integration status of your school, please contact the team at BridgeU and we can review this for you.

What does the integration allow my school to do?

The integration provides a seamless experience for BridgeU schools. If you are a BridgeU school with document sending included in your subscription and your students will apply to Common App universities, BridgeU highly recommends using the integration to streamline your workflow.

Important: By using the Common App<>BridgeU integration, you should expect to complete an entire application cycle without changing your integration status. Regardless of whether you have started using the Common App system only or the BridgeU-Common App integration, switching your school's integration status mid-application cycle may remove progress that has already been completed.

My school is currently not using the BridgeU-Common App integration, but we would like to enable it. What do I need to do?

We recommend to continue using the Common App for the application cycle to avoid reversing your progress, if any of the listed actions below have already been made:

  • Students have already invited their counsellor and teacher recommenders on Common App.

  • Counselor or teacher recommenders have already submitted supporting documents on Common App (e.g. school report, counsellor recommendation, teacher recommendation)

However, if the above actions have not been completed and you’re still interested in enabling the BridgeU-Common App integration, please contact our Support team at hi@bridge-u.com using the following email template:

Subject: Request to enable BridgeU-Common App integration

Body:
I am an advisor at [school name] and would like to enable the BridgeU-Common App integration for the 2025-2026 application season.

My school's CEEB code is [CEEB code]. I understand that this process may take a few days, and confirm that no recommender invites have already been sent by students in their Common App accounts. Nor, have any supporting documents already been submitted using the Common App directly.

My school is currently using the BridgeU-Common App integration, but we would like to disable it. What do I need to do?

If you have already started using the BridgeU-Common App integration and you or your students have completed the actions listed below, we recommend you continue using the BridgeU-Common App integration to avoid reversing your progress:

  • Students have already requested teacher recommendation letters on BridgeU

  • Students have already synced their BridgeU and Common App accounts

  • Advisors have already submitted supporting documents to Common App universities via BridgeU Document Sending (e.g., school report, counsellor recommendation, teacher recommendation)

We do NOT want to be paired with Common App this cycle- how do we opt out of the pairing?

Ahead of each application cycle, BridgeU emails schools to confirm that the BridgeU<>Common App integration will be switched on automatically for the upcoming year (for example, an email titled "Your Free Common App Integration Goes Live 1st August"). If your school would prefer not to be paired for the upcoming cycle, you can ask us to exclude your school from the automatic pairing — you do not have to accept it by default.

To opt out of the pairing:

  1. Reply to the integration email, or start a Live Chat in BridgeU, and let us know you would like your school excluded from the automatic BridgeU<>Common App pairing for the upcoming application cycle.

  2. Include your school name and CEEB code so the team can identify the correct account.

  3. If you are replying by email and do not see the "Talk to an agent" button, simply reply to the email. If FIN responds to your email, reply to FIN with "Talk to an agent". Your request will then be routed to our Support team, who will review it and direct it to the appropriate team for further assistance.

Your request is then passed to your school's Client Partner, who processes the exclusion on your behalf. Once your request has been submitted, no further action is needed from your side -your Client Partner will confirm once your school has been excluded from the pairing.

Please raise opt-out requests before the go-live date stated in the email (for example, 1 August). Because switching integration status mid-cycle can reverse progress already completed, it is best to confirm your preference as early as possible.
