Cap how much use a specific section of a permit area can take, separately from the permit's own overall capacity.
How to set a limit on a section
In the left sidebar, under Compliance Hub, click Permits.
Select the permit you want to edit.
Scroll to Capacity and limits.
In the Applicable Area Locations table, find the row for the section you want to cap — each row is identified by its area and its start and end points.
In the Locations column, use the Select items... dropdown to choose the location for that row. Until you do, the row's Capacity rules column stays empty and there's no pencil to click, so this step has to come first.
In the Capacity rules column, click the pencil beside the current status to open Edit location. A row with no rules yet shows Unlimited.
Under Location capacity rules, click + Add a rule.
Set What to count — trip units, clients, or total people per group — and the Time window: per day, per month, or total.
Enter the Limit.
Set the Date range the rule applies to.
Click Save in the bottom right to apply your updates.
To remove a rule, click the X in its top-right corner. To copy it, use the duplicate icon beside it.
Reminder: The What to count options come from the permits linked to that location, so only the types your linked permits actually use will appear. If Total people per group is missing, none of the linked permits counts that way — link one that does and the option shows up.
How limits work together
Total people per group counts each client plus one for every guided unit, so it lands higher than a straight client count on the same trip.
Each limit is checked on its own. A booking has to satisfy every limit that applies to it, so whichever is tightest on a given day is the one that binds — limits are never merged into a single combined number, and a location's rules don't replace your permit's own capacity. Rules with overlapping date ranges all apply at once; none overrides another.
If a limit would be exceeded, online booking for that date switches from instant booking to request-only rather than being blocked outright. Exceeded limits also show up as warnings in your compliance reporting.
Dates outside a rule's range
A rule only counts on dates inside its date range. On a date that falls outside every rule set on a location, that location reads as Unlimited rather than as full — nothing caps it and nothing is blocked.
This is worth checking on sections whose rules cover only part of the season. Once the date ranges run out, the section stops being capped even though rules are still listed on it. Extending a range, or adding a rule that covers the rest of the year, keeps the cap in force.
