How Notification Settings Work Across Your Organization vs. Per Booking

Learn the difference between organization-wide Notification Settings and booking-level Communication Settings so it is easier to manage client messages in the right place.

Brindlechute gives outfitters two levels of control for client communication.

Notification Settings control how notifications work across the organization. These are the broader default settings that affect bookings more generally.

Communication Settings inside a booking control notifications for one specific booking only. These are best used when one trip needs an exception without changing the default setup for everyone else.

Understanding the difference between these two areas helps staff know where to make changes and prevents accidental updates to the wrong level.

Organization-wide Notification Settings

Notification Settings are used to control communication more broadly across the organization.

This is where staff can manage overall notification behavior, including the main notification controls for client communication.

Use Notification Settings when the goal is to:

  • change default communication behavior for the organization

  • turn notifications on or off for all

  • manage how client notifications work across bookings in general

These settings are best when the change should apply to all.

Booking-level Communication Settings

Communication Settings are found inside an individual booking.

These settings let staff control which communications are sent for that specific booking only. This is helpful when one trip needs different communication handling, but the rest of the organization’s settings should stay the same.

Use booking-level Communication Settings when:

  • one booking needs an exception

  • a specific message should not be sent for one trip

  • a client already received the information another way

  • staff want to avoid sending an unnecessary message for a single booking

The main difference

The simplest way to think about it is:

  • Notification Settings = default communication controls for the organization

  • Communication Settings = communication controls for one booking

If the change should affect all bookings, start in Notification Settings.

If the change should affect only one, use Communication Settings inside that booking.

When to use each one

Use Notification Settings when the goal is to update how communication works as a default across the business.

Use Communication Settings when the goal is to make a one-off adjustment for an individual booking.

Why this matters

Using the correct setting helps keep communication organized and prevents unintended changes. It also makes it easier to handle special booking situations without changing the broader notification setup for the whole organization.

Notification Settings and booking-level Communication Settings work together to give outfitters both broad control and booking-specific flexibility. Using the right one for the situation helps keep client communication clear, consistent, and easy to manage.
