Is There a Time Limit for Refunds?

Card payments can be refunded long after the original charge. ACH payments can be refunded within 180 days (about 6 months).

How long you have to refund a client depends on how they paid. Refunds always go back to the original payment method.

Card Payments

There's no 180-day cutoff for card payments. You can refund to the original card months after the charge. Refunds issued more than a year after the original payment have gone through.

ACH Payments

ACH (bank) payments can be refunded within 180 days (about 6 months) of the original payment date. If you plan to refund an ACH payment, issue it within 180 days of when the client paid.

This limit comes from Stripe, the payment processor. Once an ACH payment is more than 180 days old, Brindlechute won't let you start a refund to it, and the refund window explains that the payment is past Stripe's 180-day refund window.
