This article gives a quick overview of the first things you see when you land in budgee to help you get familiar with everything.

When you have created a new board you will land on your Cash Summary tab.

Time periods

The first thing you might notice is that Transactions are grouped in columns. Each of column is a time period (Month by default). You can change these time periods to Years, Weeks or Days by clicking Options and selecting a different Date granularity.

You can also scroll the page to the right as far as you like using the bottom scroll bar to see into the future, and click the Back button (shown below) to see into the past. Keep pressing Back to go further into the past.

You can also click the Go To... button in the header to select a specific date to travel to.

The current time period is in a box with a shadow so you can find it easily.

Cash summary tab

The Cash summary tab (where you first arrive), has transactions grouped into Incoming, Outgoing and Transfers. These are then further split by categories. Each of thes shows the change in cash for that category during the time period.

Clicking on a Category will open it to see the transactions that make it up.

Individual transactions can be clicked on for more details.

If a transaction is paid, it is locked in place. But if it is not yet paid, you can change the dates on it, or drag it to when you expect it to be paid. You can also make your own forecast transactions by pressing the + button.

Balance footers

The footer in budgee is where the balances and totals for the time period are.

There are many different footers which you can access by pressing the footer option button.

This brings up the Balance options box, where you can choose what footers to show and how you want them displayed.

Note that footer visibility can also be set per tabs. More about that here.

Automatic Forecasting

Budgee makes forecasting simple with the forecasting into the future tool. When you see the current period box (in Month mode), you should see this green box with an arrow.

Clicking it brings up the automatic forecasting box. Selecting any of these options will forecast this amount into the future. You can remove the forecast by clicking on the green arrow again and an option to remove the forecast will now be there.

Scenarios

Once you are happy with your forecasts and think you have a realistic baseline setup, it is time to make use of the real power of budgee.scenarios.

Click on the scenario creator button in the header to open the scenario drawer. Then click Add -> New scenario.

More about these can be found here. Once you have set them up, toggle them off and on in the scenario creator drawer.

Tabs

There are many different useful ways to view transactions. With budgee you don't have to choose, you can instead make as many tabs as you wish, to see your past and future cash flow just the way you need to, to make the best decisions.

Try clicking Dashboard, and all transactions, or add a new one. More about Tabs can be found here and here.
