Starting a new project in BuilderBid takes only a few minutes. Once created, you’ll be able to upload plans, input project details, and move into estimating or take-off work.

Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Go to the Project Pipeline
From the main dashboard, navigate to the Project Pipeline page.
Click “Create New Project” (typically located top-left).
2. Upload Plan Files
After clicking “Create New Project”, you’ll be prompted with the option to begin by uploading plans.
You have two choices:
Start an estimate - do your own takeoffs.
Purchase a Takeoff - send your plans to us and we’ll handle the takeoffs and budget for you.
To upload your files:
Drag & drop your plan PDFs/drawings into the upload box.
Or click the grey upload area to browse your computer and select files.
3. Enter Project Name and Location
Once the files are uploaded (or if you skip uploading now), enter the following:
Project Name — choose a name that makes the job easy to locate later (e.g., “Smith-Renovation 2025”).
Zip Code — this sets the local cost database and regional settings correctly.
After entering these details, click Finish to create the project.
4. Access the Project Home Tab
Once created, you’ll be taken to the Project Home tab.
Here you can:
Edit project information (name & address)
Add notes or comments about the job
Upload additional documents (e.g., revised plans)
5. Move Into Estimating
On the left-hand menu, click the Estimating tab.
The next steps are:
Import a template (so you have the correct budget structure)
Set up your screen (screen setup, configure sheets, scale plans)
Once template and screen are set up, you’re ready to begin your estimate.
