In BuilderBid, a template is a pre-built estimating or budget worksheet structure (with items, assemblies, cost codes, etc.) that you can reuse for multiple projects. Importing a template allows you to start a new job quickly, using your tried-and-trusted format rather than building from scratch every time.

Steps in Importing a Template

After creating your project, the next step is to import a budget template. This allows you to quickly build out your budget, takeoffs, sections, and cost items.

1. Open the Template Import Window

  • Click Import a Template.
A window will appear showing your list of existing budget templates.

  • From here, click Select on any template you want to use.

2. Review Your Imported Template

Your template now includes:

  • All selected sections

  • All line items

  • All units and measurement settings

  • Any assemblies you pulled from the library

You’re now ready for the next step: setting up your screen.

If you’re working on a small project or only need a few takeoff items, you can choose Start from Scratch instead.

1. Choose to Start From Scratch (Optional)

2. This will load a blank template, which functions like a simple spreadsheet.

You can manually:

  • Add section names

  • Add cost item names

3. Pre-configure measurements

  • Click the tape measure icon in the Unit column.

  • Select the appropriate measurement tool for that line item.

4. Pull in cost assemblies from the BuilderBid Library

  • Click the Cost Item Name for the row you want to populate.

  • On the left, select Search Library.

  • The BuilderBid Library will open on the right side.

    • You can:

      • Browse through folders, or

      • Use the search bar to type keywords

  • Once you find the assembly you need:

    • Click to select it.

    • Click Confirm at the bottom.

BuilderBid will import the entire assembly into your template with all details automatically filled in.
