We'll start by locating our project budget settings. Make sure you're within an existing project and go to Project Settings--->Project Budget

Method

Note: this really only affects the customer's visibility, what they can see in your budget

Cost Plus: Open book, if the budget is published the customer will see this and will see the code breakdown, with the exception of builder cost which is internal

Fixed Bid: Closed book, if the budget is published the customer will not see the budget, they will only see the contract total on their dashboard

Fees Percentage

Markup: Regular fee calculation. Example, $100 x 10% comes out to $110

Gross Margin: Combines revenue and cost into a whole number. Example, a 30% gross margin means that for every dollar of sales, the business keeps 30 cents as profit after paying for the direct costs

Fees Calculation

Cumulative: Applies when you have more than one fee. The 2nd fee will be calculated based on the outcome of the first fee. Example:
-Fee 1 is 10% over $100, the outcome is $110
-Fee 2 is 10% but not over $100, instead it now calculates over the first fee's outcome, so it calculates on top of $110 and the outcome is $121

Flat Fee: All fees are calculated based on the starting cost, they will not compound like they do with cumulative

Cumulative Cost / Flat Fee Profit: This combines both methods listed above based on the type of fee. If the fee types are cost they will be cumulative, if the fee types are flat they will calculate as such

Budget Options

If enabled this will display a new tab in your budget to start creating options

Adding Fees

Type: this is just informational and has no effect over the calculation, unless you choose Cumulative Cost / Flat Fee Profit as your calculation method.

Fee Type: this indicates if your fee will be shown as a separate line item in the budget, blended within each line item, or as a global fixed dollar amount

If the fee type is Separate you'll have to choose a cost code that acts as your fee, if it's Blended you'll have to supply a custom name

We hope this clarifies how fees work in BuildTools, any questions please reach out to Support
