What if my ID or name on the document does not match exactly?

Small differences may be ok; big differences may stop the notarization

  1. Minor differences (for example “Jon” vs “Jonathan”) can sometimes be accepted if clearly the same person.

  2. Major differences (different last name, different spelling, outdated name) may prevent notarization.

  3. If your legal name has changed, update the document before the session or bring proof of the change (for example a marriage certificate).

  4. The notary has the final say on whether the ID and document match well enough.
