What is the difference between EIN, SSN, and ITIN?

Business ID vs personal U.S. tax IDs.

Updated over 3 months ago
  • EIN – Tax ID for a business (LLC, corporation, etc.).

  • SSN – Personal U.S. Social Security Number for U.S. persons.

  • ITIN – Individual Taxpayer Identification Number for people who need a U.S. tax ID but do not qualify for an SSN.

EIN identifies the business; SSN/ITIN identify individuals.
