Featured FAQs

What is PostTap for Creators by Button?

PostTap for Creators is the cloud-based app deep linking platform designed for creators or anyone that needs to create links that open apps.

Do I need to download or install anything to get started?

PostTap is a cloud-based solution and doesn't require any installation or technical development to get started. You can be live in minutes after creating a shortlink.

How does this work?

The links created here work by connecting consumers who click on a link that you post in the wild to already installed apps. Using proprietary technology PostTap will make determinations on the best destination for a consumer to ultimately convert. If no app is installed, a click will redirect to the destination on the web; whereas, the link will open the correct page in the app if it is installed.

How much does this cost?

There is no fee to use the PostTap product at this time. Payment is covered by an agreement between Button and Amazon.

What conversion rates can I expect?

When using shortlinks created on posttap.creators.com you can expect to see an increase in your overall performance. That increase will vary depending on where your links are used, but you can expect north of a 50% increase in conversion rates.

Can I input an Amazon shortlink (ie amzn.to) into this tool?

Yes! However, please ensure that you created the link properly using Amazon linking tools to ensure that your Associates Tracking ID will be included on the link.

The tool won’t let me create a shortlink, what’s going on?

See the error message below the URL input field to find out why you are unable to create a shortlink.

  • Invalid domain: Please use a valid domain like amazon.com or amzn.to

  • Incorrect tag format: Your Amazon Tracking ID must end with either 1-20 (US) or 1-21 (EU).

What social platforms can these links be used on?

These links will work correctly on the following social platforms: Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, WhatsApp, Messenger, and LinkedIn.

It’s important to note a few considerations for testing a newly created shortlink:

  • Links will not deeplink into app if pasted directly into a browser address bar.

  • To test your links please validate directly in the social browser post.

  • Links engaged with on social browsers will deep-link if not excluded from doing so through inclusion on a hold-out experience to validate performance.

Where can I see the performance of my links?

All reporting will be available in your Amazon Affiliates account. Please note that reporting will span across the 5 Tracking IDs created for this Pilot in the format “yourname”xbutton(1-5)-20 or (1-5)-21 even though you can only create a shortlink using the Tracking ID “yourname”xbutton1-20 or 1-21. Even though you’ll only use 1-20 or 1-21 for creating links, there will be stats available for all IDs in the Amazon Associates reporting dashboard.

General FAQs

What is a shortlink?

A shortlink is a simplified version of a complicated URL that will redirect to your intended destination.

How do I find shortlinks I’ve already created?

All your created shortlinks are stored in a table at the bottom of the page. Simply find the name associated with the link you want to use, and click the copy icon next to the shortlink to add the link to your clipboard.

Note: Remember to clearly name the links you create to refer back to them later!

When testing the shortlink, why don't I get redirected to the app when I have the Amazon app installed?

Occasionally when clicking on a shortlink you will see the Amazon page in a webview instead of being routed to app because your click was randomly assigned to a control group. The control group experience mimics that of an Amazon link and will not redirect to app.

Can I create multiple shortlinks using the same original URL?

Yes! You can create as many shortlinks as you like, even if they use the same original URL provided you give them a different name.

Should I create a different shortlink for each traffic source?

No need! You can use the same shortlink across multiple traffic sources and we will capture which platform the clicks came from.

Can I change the name of a shortlink once it has been created?

Not at this time. However, you can create another shortlink using the same link provided you give it a different name.

What does the status of the shortlink mean?

  • Pending indicates that the link you created has not yet been clicked on.

  • Active indicates that the shortlink you created has had at least 1 successful click.

  • Please note: status is updated hourly. Any click will take up to one hour to change status from Pending to Active.

Why do I sometimes see an app confirmation popup when my links are live on social media?

In certain cases, the device operating system or application will decide to verify that the shopper intends to navigate directly to the app and will do so by presenting a popup to the shopper. Typically the popup is only shown a single time.

What happens when an app is not installed?

When an app is not installed a shopper will be redirected to the destination on the web.

Does PostTap work on all web browsers?

Yes, PostTap links will work on all web browsers and is specifically designed to optimize performance for journeys originating within in-app browsers of the major social networks.
