Note: We use "Program" and "Member" as label-agnostic terms to refer to any marketing you are using Buzzbassador to facilitate, whether you refer to it as an affiliate program, influencer marketing, ambassador program, referral program, creator partnerships, brand reps, partner program, etc.

In Buzzbassador, you have the ability to create more than one program to onboard members into. Each program that you create will have its own discount code, referral code, and reward structures to follow. In other words, the set rules for each program will only apply to the members within that program.

It's important that our merchants understand how the members' referral codes work across multiple programs. In order to understand that, you'll need to understand how the Buzzbassador referral codes are set up in Shopify in the first place.

How Buzzbassador Referral Codes Are Set Up in Shopify

Once you configure a program and set a "referral rule", this rule tells our app what discount rate you want the unique codes to take off, among other settings.

Your referral rule will also be created in your Shopify Discounts list. So, whenever you or your member choose their unique referral code, if available, our app then automatically generates and creates their code for your Shopify store. Members' referral codes can be found listed under your Buzzbassador referral rule title in your Shopify discounts list.

How Referral Rules Work With Multiple Programs

For each of your programs, you create a "referral rule" that contains all of the members' referral codes in that specific program. This means that you will have more than one Buzzbassador referral rule within your Shopify Discounts list.

Our app automatically creates the Referral Rules in your Shopify discounts list. Inside these rules are where your members' individual, unique codes will appear. Think of each program's referral rule as a "discount code folder" that contains each of the individual referral codes from each member in that rule's respective program.

For example, let's say that you have two programs, one tier is called Nano-Program and is structured for your members who have less than 10,000 followers and the other program, Micro-Program, is structured for members with more than 10,000 followers.

In the Nano-Program, each members' referral code gives their friends and followers a 15% discount on their order, and the member will receive a 10% commission from generated sales using their referral code. All members assigned to Nano-Program will receive the benefits specified under this program and only their referral codes will be listed under the Referral Rule title, Referral Codes: Nano-Influencers, set in the program's referral structure.

On the contrary, for the Micro Program, their codes have a different structure and will be listed under a different referral rule in Shopify. So in summary, it's important to keep in mind that if you have multiple tiers, your member codes may appear in different places, and you'll have to look in multiple different referral rules to find them.

What Happens To A Member's Referral Code When Their Program is Changed?

When you move a member to another program, their referral code will be removed from the referral rule of their old program and recreated under the referral rule of their new program. The member's discount, referral, and reward settings will be updated to match the settings of their newly assigned program. However, their referral code name will remain the same. For example, if their code was MARIAAMB before, it will still be MARIAAMB after it's moved, even though the settings and location of the code will have changed.

Once the member has been assigned to a new program, they will only be notified if you have the "Your Program Settings Changed" email set to active. The member can also see that their perks (reward, discount, and referral settings) have changed from within their Buzzbassador account here),

You can learn more about how you can move a member to another program tier in your Buzzbassador account here.
