Expenses and reports contain comments which help approvers and spenders communicate. For example, if an approver has a question about an expense, they can leave a comment on the expense. The spender will be notified of the comment via email and can now take action to address the question.

As an approver, you can add comments to any individual expenses and expense reports that have been assigned to you, so long as their status is submitted or approved. You cannot add comments to incomplete or draft reports.

Note: All comments are visible to admins and the owner of your business.

Add comments to an expense

Select Expense reports in the left side panel. Then, select Your team’s reports from the drop-down.

Select the report you’d like to review from the list on the page.

Once you’re on the View report page, use the checkboxes to select the expense you’d like to leave a comment on. Select the Add comment button.

Enter your comment in the Add comment pop-up, then select Add comment. Once a comment is made, it can’t be edited or deleted.

To view the comment, select the expense from the list on the page. In the View expense pop-up, expand the Comments section.

Add comments to an expense report

Select Expense reports in the left side panel. Then, select Your team’s reports from the drop-down.

Select the report you’d like to review from the list on the page.

Once you’re on the View report page, select the Comments tab.

Enter your comment then select the Send icon. Once a comment is made, it can’t be edited or deleted.

Your comment will be visible as soon as you’ve sent it. The spender will be notified of the comment by email and can respond in the Comments tab of the View report page.
