Creating Multiple Configurations for a Control

Based upon organizational situations, there may be the need to create multiple configurations for the same control.

A previous article defined how Users create a Default configuration for each control that has variables. Specific systems may require different notification timelines, different personnel identified for notification, different security parameters, etc. In those cases, the control needs to be modified to reflect the requirements for that system or systems. Users will need to create a new configuration for that control and apply it to the systems requiring different parameters than the default configuration. There is no limit to the number of control configurations that can be defined.

Navigate to the Approved Controls from the left CyMetric navigation area. From the list of Approved controls, select the control you want to create an alternate configuration for. The control is displayed with its Default configuration along with a list of systems where the control is applied.

Click on the options button from the top right corner of the control display. Click on + Add New Config option from the list.

The control will be displayed with specific areas requiring inputs. Populate the variables in the control to reflect values different from the Default and aligned with the requirements of the systems it will be applied to.

Short Name: A 10-character name for the control that will be displayed on the control (e.g. Default)

Description: A detailed, text-based description of the control that reflects the function or objective of the new variables that will be inputted. Since the new configuration can be applied to multiple information systems, this description defines the reason or function of the variable. For example, the new control configuration can be applied to mission critical systems and might be called “High Security”.

NOTE: Caetra.io does not recommend creating control configurations that are named for a specific system. That approach could lead to the same control configuration having different names which could be quite confusing.

When finished, click on the Create Config button. The new configuration option will display as a button at the top of the Control screen. The control configuration icon highlighted in blue is the currently identified control and all systems that are using that configuration will appear in the grid below.
