Virtual Tour How-to Guide

Pre-work:

  1. Pick a few spots on campus that you think would be locations to showcase in the virtual tour experience.

  2. Ensure that these spots on campus are easily accessible through Google Maps.

    1. The location should be accessed through either the “blue line” or “blue dot” in Google Maps and you can drop the little cartoon person onto street view.

  1. Gather the address information for each site and save a photo onto your desktop that would be a snapshot / thumbnail photo for the location.

Adding featured locations in your CampusReel portal:

  1. Navigate to the 360 Virtual Tour tab on the left side of the page→

  2. Click the “Create Location” toggle to add the first location.

  3. In the “Create new Location” page:

    1. add the Title of building

    2. (first option) the Location address

    3. a description of the building

    4. Upload the snapshot / thumbnail photo that you saved on your desktop in the pre-work phase.

    5. To add video content that is already in your CampusReel video library, "Add New" under Edit Media and then "Select from CampusReel."

Another option is to use the iFrame code from Google Maps:

  • This can be accessed by going to the location in Google / 360 photo in Google.

  • Please then click Share or Embed and image and copy the HTML under Embed a Map:

  • In the admin panel, paste the HTML code in the iFrame (optional) field:

4. Before saving the location, ensure that the snapshot of the location is focused on the building being featured. Click and drag the Google Map snapshot to do this. In the circled snapshot below, I clicked and dragged the image from Google Maps to spin to the view of the location I want to feature.

5. Save the new location!

6. Create as many locations as you would like, using the same process as below.

Adding Calls to Action in your CampusReel portal:

  1. Choose pages on your website that you would like to allow viewers to access while participating in the virtual tour.

    1. Examples: Admissions webpage, Student life webpage, so on.

  2. Copy the URL of your chosen webpage.

  3. In the Call to Action section of the Virtual Immersion setup page:

    1. Click the Display button

    2. For the Button Text, write what you would like the call to action button to say; for example, if you are linking to the Admissions page, type “Apply here!”

    3. In the Buttons URL, paste the copied link to the webpage; for example, paste the URL to the Admissions page

  4. Save the Calls to Action!

Preview and present tools through the CampusReel portal:

  1. To ensure that all the work above is exactly how you want it, you can preview what the tour will look like:

Your virtual tour is all ready to go! Now you can share and embed the tour as you see fit ☺
