What is the status field?

A video's status is some of the most important information in the CampusReel Content Management System (CMS). The three current options are Original, Private, and Public.

  • Original: raw, unedited file

  • For Review: edited by CampusReel and ready for your use

  • Private: ready to be shared but not currently visible on your campusreel.org profile or on your API

  • Public: visible on your campusreel.org profile and your CampusReel API

How do we use the status field?

CampusReel will maintain an original copy of unedited footage in case you want to repurpose it later. These files will have the Original status.

After uploading the edited version, we will give the file a friendly title, add tags and description, and change the status to For Review.

When you want to publish the video, making it visible on your campusreel.org profile and your CampusReel API, change the status to Public by clicking the arrow next to the video's current status and clicking the Public option.

Is there any reason not to publish all my edited videos?

Yes! We recommend social snippets (short videos specifically edited for social media use) keep the Private status since they are not formatted for use on a web page.

You also may have videos that you only want specific people to see -- for example, information for admitted students on housing or deposits. These should stay Private so they don't appear on your campusreel.org profile or your CampusReel API. For these videos, you can send the videos' links directly to your desired audience.
