What project requirements must be met to receive Ontario Food Technology Pilot funding?

To receive Ontario Food Technology Pilot funding, your project must be a post-farmgate food technology demonstration project that advances a technology toward commercialization.

Eligible Project Activities

Your project must:

  • Focus on large-scale technology demonstration

  • Advance a technology toward commercialization

  • Target Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) 6 to 9

  • Align with at least one CFIN Innovation Priority

  • Be located in an eligible southern Ontario region

  • Demonstrate a technology that has not yet been commercialized

  • Projects focused on primary agricultural production activities are not eligible.

What Technology Readiness Level (TRL) is Required?

Your technology should be at TRL 6 or TRL 7 when you apply.

TRL 6

  • Product or process prototype demonstrated in a relevant environment

TRL 7

  • System prototype demonstrated in an operational environment

Expected Project Outcome

  • Your project should advance the technology to:

  • TRL 8: System complete and qualified

  • TRL 9: Actual product or process proven successful
