How does the True North Sustainable Food Fund work?

Written by CFIN Staff

The True North Sustainable Food Fund supports Canadian foodtech companies developing clean technology solutions for food processing and distribution.

The program funds industrial demonstration projects that validate emerging technologies in operational environments.

The program has two funding streams:

  • Spark: Up to $100,000 in funding for smaller, faster pilot projects

  • Impact: $250,000 to $1,000,000 in funding for larger industrial demonstrations

Projects must:

  1. Be led by a Canadian foodtech SME

  2. Focus on food processing or distribution

  3. Demonstrate clean technology innovation

  4. Start at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4–5

  5. Target TRL 8 by project completion

  6. Be completed by December 31, 2027

CFIN funds up to 50% of eligible project costs on a reimbursement basis.
