Who is eligible to apply for the True North Sustainable Food Fund?

You are eligible to apply if your organization meets all of the following requirements:

  • You are a Canadian small or medium-sized enterprise (SME)

  • Your company has fewer than 499 full-time equivalent employees

  • Your company generates less than $50 million in annual revenue

  • Your business has been incorporated for at least one year at the time of application

  • Your organization owns the core intellectual property (IP) behind the technology

  • Your project focuses on food processing or food distribution

  • Your technology starts at TRL 4–5 and targets TRL 8 by project completion

Pre-revenue companies may apply if they meet the incorporation and IP ownership requirements.

You are not eligible if:

  • Your project focuses on farm-level agriculture or primary production

  • Your company licenses the core IP from another company or foreign entity

  • You are applying as a technology adopter instead of the technology developer

  • You are currently the lead applicant on an active CFIN project

  • You are a government department, Crown corporation, or publicly funded not-for-profit organization
