How to add knowledge
Before you begin:
You'll need to create a text document to upload into Canny
For example, the help doc you’re reading now
The content should be structured as free text (headers and paragraphs)
Markdown (.md) document format is recommended. Other files should be well-formatted, too. Text located in random positions, irrelevant text, and embedded images might lead to worse results
Any source that provides information about your product and its features is going to be helpful
Owner-level admin permissions in Canny are required to upload to the knowledge hub
Uploading docs:
You can click the "Upload" button OR drag a file to upload it into you knowledge hub:
Things to note:
Do NOT upload any files containing personally identifiable information (PII for short)
Supported files are .txt, .md, .pdf, .html, or .docx
Files must be 8MB in size or less
Embedded non-text elements like videos and screenshots will NOT be processed. We recommend using transcripts instead
We recommend uploading one file per help article rather than trying to merge all your help docs into a single document. We have found that the accuracy of the model decreases if you upload all your help docs in a single file
If you need to upload more than 200 files, that will have to be enabled by Canny support. Just start a chat or contact us at support@canny.io
Many tools support exporting to these documents. In Notion, for example, you can export to Markdown (.md) format or PDF directly from the tool. Further details here
