How to edit your jobs to screen overseas candidates

We have developed new functionality that enables you to screen and control communications to any app-referred candidates who live overseas.

It is now possible (but optional) to ask candidates if they live and have the right to work in the country they are based when they express interest in a role. You can also select if candidates should be auto-rejected if they do not live and have the right to work in the country.

These two options are customisable for each job so if you would like to allow overseas candidates for one role but not another you can!

It’s really simple to set this up for your current jobs and this step-by-step guide will show you how.

Step 1: Head to the jobs area of the portal. Search for the job you wish to edit in the search box, click the three-dot menu icon and then click edit.

Step 2: Click on the ‘4’ on the top step-by-step graphic to fast-track to the job settings screen.

If you would like to add the question: ‘Do you have the right to live and work in the UK?’ to the expression of interest form, toggle ON ‘Role requires the candidate to live and have the right to work in the UK’.

For organisations based in the Republic Of Ireland or Australia, the question will reflect this.

The new screening question will then appear on the expression of interest form seen by potential candidates and they will need to answer 'yes' or 'no' to submit the form:

Back in the job settings section of the portal, an additional toggle will appear: ‘Auto reject any candidates without the right to work in the UK’ (this option will show as ROI or Australia if based in these countries). If you would like to auto-reject any candidate who answers no to the question ‘Do you have the right to live and work in the UK?’ then toggle this ON.

Toggling this ON will ensure that:

  • The candidate will not come through to your candidate area - saving your recruiters' time

  • The referrer will not receive any points for the expression of interest - so you only pay points for eligible candidates

  • The candidate will receive a friendly email to inform them that only applicants who are living and have the right to work in the country can progress.

Please Note: If the toggle remains OFF then even if a candidate answers that they do not live and have the right to work in the country the application will appear in the candidate list as usual and the referrer will receive the expression of interest points.

Step 3: Click Finish.

If you have chosen not to auto-reject a candidate, you will be able to see how a candidate has answered the additional question on the expression of interest form by heading to the candidate area and clicking on the contact card:

The above steps can then be repeated for any of the other job roles.

💡Helpful hint: For any roles where the auto-rejection option has been turned on, we recommend including a sentence in your job description to inform candidates that a role is not accepting overseas candidates.

To do this, repeat the above step 1 and then click on the number 3 at the top of the edit job screen. This will take you to the description and media page and you can use the description box to add the additional point. Once done click ‘Next’ and then ‘Finish’. The job description will then be updated.

We hope this helps. If you have any questions regarding the management of your overseas applicants, just click the green chat icon in the bottom right of your screen and we will be happy to support you.
