The options to break an appointment depend on Broken Appointment Automation Settings which will categorize broken appointments into Cancelled or Missed as well as add them to the lists such as ‘Unscheduled List’, ‘Copy to Pinboard’ or ‘Leave in Appt Module’.
Additionally, when appointments are either cancelled or missed, the system will add a broken appointment procedure code and the appointment will be shown with an X.
When an appointment is marked as Missed, a procedure with code D9986 is added to the patient's chart. When an appointment is marked as Cancelled, a procedure with code D9987 is added to the patient's chart.
Workflow to Break an Appointment
Select the appointment you wish to cancel from the Appointment Module (Schedule) and then do any of the following:
From the toolbar click ‘Break’
Right-click the appointment, then select Break Appointment.
OR
In the Edit Appointment window, change the status to Broken
Then select any of the appt. is missed or cancelled and if it can be added to a list
