As you scroll through the text of an opinion, you may see some sentences or paragraphs highlighted in green. These are Key Passages.

Key Passages are portions of the opinion that have been cited by multiple cases. This lets you see frequently discussed portions of a case. The highlights will also correspond with the green bubbles in the margin of the page, to make them easier to find.

How Do I See The Specific Cases That Cited to the Key Passage?

To see the cases that cited the passage in question, place your cursor anywhere on the green highlight, and click on it. This will bring up a list on the right side of the page of those cases:

To filter this list down (by cases that contain certain terms or cases from particular jurisdictions), scroll down the list of cases until you see a "See and Filter All Citing Cases" button:

You will be taken to a new page, where you can then filter that list of cases:

Do I Need To Do Anything To Turn on This Feature?

No, Key Passages appear automatically.

How Do I Print The Key Passages?

If you would like to download or print the case and include the green Key Passage highlights, follow these steps:

  1. Click on either the PDF or print icon in the upper left corner of the case page:

2: Select the "Include key passage highlights" box and click the Download (or Print) button. You can also choose to print your own highlights, if you have highlighted text on the case page (as seen in yellow) by clicking "Include my highlights":
