Tagging projects

Learn how to use tags, where to find them, and how to get started

Updated over 2 years ago

Tags are labels you create to help organise your projects. Tagging lets you bring your own project structure into Cecil and label projects based on data you know about them. Tags are highly customisable, so you can create and assign them as you see fit.

In this article, you’ll learn the basics of tags and how you can use them to organise your project portfolio.

About tags

Think of tags as labels for your projects that help you stay organised. If you’ve ever worked with a customer relationship manager (CRM) or even a blogging platform before, you might have used a tagging feature to categorise people or content. In Cecil, tags are a way for you to label, or categorise, projects based on information you have about them.

How to use tags

Tags are completely customisable, so you can use them however you need to. You might want to create a comprehensive tagging structure to organise all your projects, or you might just need a few tags as a lightweight way to identify some key projects. Either way, tags give you the flexibility to bring the system that works for you and your business into Cecil.

After you create tags and add them to your projects, you can filter your portfolio directly by tags to help you find what you are looking for, faster.

Create a tag

To create a new tag to apply to projects, follow these steps.

  1. Select the project Overview Tab

  2. Click the Edit summary button

  3. Select the Tag field

4. To create a new tag, simply type what you'd like to name the tag into the field and select create "new tag name". To use a previous tag, simply type in your tag name and click the relevant dropdown option.

5. You can add as many tags as you like to each project. Follow the steps above to create multiple tags for each project.

Examples

We know it can sometimes be hard to decide how to make such a flexible feature work for you. Here are some examples of tags you might create, depending on the type of business you have.

  • Investor

  • Auditor

  • Offset customer

  • Project group

  • Credit vintage
