Seeding is a method of incentivizing content creation. Rather than relying on tipping or other purely-altruistic notions, seeding invents a concept of “incentivized giving” that effectively incentivizes everyone involved.

Seeding is a way for post creators to earn money directly from their fans, but it's also a powerful way for content consumers to earn (or at least get a discount on the) monetary support they give creators.

Seeding is what incentivizes other users to look at a post and respond. When you seed a post with ETH, 25% of your seeded ETH immediately goes to the creator of the post. The remaining 75% of your seeded ETH is given to those who have seeded before you. If you happen to seed a post first, that 75% is returned to you.

To illustrate by way of an example, let's say that you see a post that you think is cool. You seed it with $1.00 worth of ETH. 75¢ of that will be evenly distributed amongst those who seeded that post before you and 25¢ goes to the creator of the post.

Note: You cannot seed your own posts.

How do I seed posts?

  • To seed a post, click the "Seed" icon in the top-right of a post.

  • The "Seed post." modal will pop up.  Enter how much money you would like to seed the post with, in USD or ETH.

  • Click the "Seed" button.

  • A "Signature Request" modal will pop up.  Click "Sign" to authorize the transaction.

  • Seed distribution: 25% of all seeds will be distributed to the original poster (displayed as 'Seed Earnings' in Acccount) with the remaining 75% distributed amongst all previous seeders (displayed as 'Tip' in your Account).

  • The earlier and larger you seed a post, the larger the portion you will be entitled to from any followup seeds. So it's in your best interest to share the post with others around the web. You can do this by clicking the three dots in the bottom-left of the post you seed and click "Share".

How can I view who's seeded mine and other posts?

  • You can view who's seeded a post and when by clicking the "Seed" icon in the top-right of a post.

  • You will also get a notification when someone seeds your post.
