How can I benefit from using QR codes in my certificates?

📓 A QR code is a two-dimensional version of the Barcode that shows specific information and redirects the viewer to a certain page after scanning it with a mobile device.

Adding a QR code to your certificate design enhances both professionalism and functionality. Here are a few common ways you can benefit from it:

✅ Credential verification:

  • If your recipient prints the certificate or downloads it as a PDF, it will be possible for anyone to verify its validity. Even if someone tries to change the name on the certificate, the QR code will lead viewers to the correct digital credential. It makes the certificates hard to forge and increases their credibility.

📢 Boost your brand visibility:

  • If you have a customized Recipient View page, a redirect increases your brand awareness. By scanning the QR code on the printed certificate, anyone can learn more about your upcoming events, and check your social media and website.

🎯 Drive traffic to other resources:

  • You can also add a custom link behind the QR code that points to your website, next course, training program, or learning resource. It’s an easy way to keep learners engaged.

You can add a QR code to your design by following these simple steps:

  1. Open the Design Builder

Navigate to the Designs tabCreate New Design or open any existing design that you want to add QR code to.

  2. Go to the QR code section on the left-side menu and choose what the QR code should lead to

    You have two options:

    • Verification page (recommended): This will link to the certificate’s verification page. Each QR code will be personalized for the recipient's unique credential.

    • Custom URL: Add any link you'd like. This could lead to more courses, your website, a contact form, or any external resource.

  3. Resize and position the QR code on your design

Use your mouse to move and resize the QR code element. Place it anywhere that fits well with your layout. You can also adjust the margin, border, and corner radius, as well as the text description.

Avoid placing it over the text or a part of the background with many colors. It will help to prevent issues with readability.

  4. Check the readability of the QR code on your device

By default, we have a transparent background. As there is no layer between the certificate background and the actual code, we cannot check its readability.

Please test the code with your phone to make sure that it works as expected.

  5. Save the design.

Once you're happy with how everything looks and works, remember to save your Design.

Congratulations! Now, the QR code has been added to your certificate design.

How to add a QR code to my badge?

Why is contrast ratio important for QR codes?

It’s important to make sure that there is enough contrast between the QR code and your background. If the contrast is not enough, your device just won’t be able to scan the QR code.

To set a custom background color, increase the transparency as shown on the screenshot.

You may change the color by pasting the Hex color code or choosing from the generic options available:

You may additionally double-check the readability of the QR code with your device before issuing it.

How to add my own link to the QR code?

The process looks exactly the same for your links - after adding the QR code, you'll just need to edit the link it points to:

Remember to save the changes, and that's it! Your customized QR code is added to your certificate or badge 🚀

💡 Tip: You can use both types of QR codes (verification and custom link) at the same time if you wish.

How does the QR code behave when the certificate or badge is issued?

  • If you choose the verification page option, each recipient will get a unique QR code that links directly to their credential’s verification page. This ensures authenticity and allows anyone scanning it to see the certificate details on your branded Certifier verification page.

  • If you choose a custom URL, the same QR code will appear on every credential and redirect to the URL you specified.
