State Training Program:

The Delaware Responsible Server Training (RST) Program was introduced in response to the growing need for safer alcohol service practices, reflecting the state's commitment to reducing alcohol-related harm. In 2020 alone, Delaware saw 1,049 alcohol-related automobile accidents, 57 of which resulted in fatalities. Alarmingly, records revealed that 61% of intoxicated drivers on Delaware roads had come from commercial establishments. With alcohol being a factor in 50 to 70% of pedestrian fatalities nationwide each year, the importance of responsible alcohol service cannot be overstated.

Under Delaware law, all individuals who serve or sell alcohol, as well as those who manage employees in these roles, are required to complete the mandatory Responsible Server Training Program approved by the State of Delaware. The program, established by the Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement, provides essential education on how to serve alcohol in a responsible and legally compliant manner. Key training topics include understanding how alcohol affects the body, properly checking IDs, recognizing the signs of intoxication, preventing over-service, and adhering to the Delaware Liquor Control Act.

By ensuring that all alcohol servers are thoroughly trained, the program aims to curb alcohol-related incidents and promote a culture of responsibility. The RST Program not only enhances public safety but also empowers businesses to operate within the boundaries of state law while fostering a safer and more informed community for all.
