State Training Program:

The Alcohol Training Awareness Program (ATAP) in New York State is designed to educate individuals involved in the sale and service of alcohol about their legal responsibilities. The program provides comprehensive training that helps licensees and their employees avoid violations, with a primary focus on preventing the sale of alcohol to underage individuals. In addition to this, the program covers a range of practical skills to help servers and sellers manage alcohol-related situations responsibly and in compliance with the law.

Although the state of New York does not mandate that all alcohol servers complete this training, the Authority strongly recommends that all licensees and employees who sell or serve alcoholic beverages participate in the program. Taking part in ATAP not only helps to prevent violations but also provides a significant benefit in case the business is charged with a violation. Having proof that staff members have completed the training can be a mitigating factor that may reduce the penalties imposed by the Authority.

The program plays an important role in promoting responsible alcohol service and public safety. It aims to ensure that those involved in the sale and service of alcohol are well-informed and equipped with the skills and knowledge to avoid common pitfalls, thereby contributing to safer and more compliant establishment
