Who Can Take an In-Person Proctored Exam?
Students enrolled in an in-person class with Certivance
The exam is administered at the end of class on the same day
The exam format depends on the certification program:
ServSafe Manager: Paper-based exam
Always Food Safe Manager: Digital (online) exam
Proctored Exam Rules (Applies to All Formats)
To maintain the integrity of the exam process, the following rules apply to all examinees:
Identification & Check-In
Present a valid, original photo ID with your signature (no photocopies).
Sign in on the Examinee Entry/Exit Log.
Your ID will be held by the proctor during the exam and returned afterward.
Personal Belongings
Store all personal items away from your seat. This includes:
Phones, smartwatches
Bags/purses
Notes or electronic devices
These items are not accessible during the exam or breaks.
Seating & Instructions
You will be assigned a seat due to exam security requirements.
Wait for the proctor’s permission before beginning.
Follow all proctor instructions throughout the session.
During the Exam
You may skip and return to questions as needed.
Never leave an answer blank—there’s no penalty for guessing.
You may take brief restroom breaks:
Only one person at a time may leave.
You cannot access personal items during the break.
Your exam time away is recorded and monitored.
Exam materials must be secured before you leave and reissued upon your return.

ServSafe Exam: 90 multiple-choice questions
Passing score: 75%
Average duration: 1.5 hours (maximum time: 3 hours)
Always Food Safe Exam: Digital format with similar content and timing
After the Exam

Your materials will be collected and verified by the proctor.
You’ll receive your photo ID and personal items back.
