What’s a Webhook?
Webhooks sound like fancy technical stuff. But they're actually quite simple and easy to set up!
Think of a webhook like a digital baseball (perhaps with some details scribbled on it) tossed out into the internet from an app when something happens in the app. A different app can then "catch" that digital baseball, read what's on it, and do something with it.
It’s a way to automatically send info from one app to another app — the moment something happens.
By using Chariot's webhooks and a connector tool like Zapier or Make.com, you can essentially automate interactions between Chariot and any major app on the internet.
Why should movers care?
Because there's some straightforward but powerful things you can do with this technology, including:
🔔 Sending real-time alerts via Slack, Discord, Teams, email or other communication channels -- going beyond Chariot's normal notifications.
Examples:
Ping a channel when a new lead comes in — so reps can reach out fast.
Notify the team when a customer signs an estimate — so ops can schedule the job.
Alert when a customer declines an estimate — so sales can try to win them back.
Ping when an estimate is sent — for sales manager oversight or coaching.
Celebrate when a payment is received — or track it in a finance channel.
📤 Triggering Automated Communications
Send transactional or marketing messages that go beyond Chariot's defaults -- through email or marketing tools outside of Chariot (like Mailchimp, SendBlue, or Drip).
Examples:
Add a new lead to your email list or text marketing campaign.
When a customer declines an estimate, send a promo follow-up email.
When a BoL is complete, trigger a thank-you SMS or a custom review request.
When a job is cancelled, send a custom email confirmation
📊 Additional Data Tracking & Reporting
Send events to Google Sheets, Excel, or Airtable to build your own dashboards or reports.
Examples:
Add a row to a spreadsheet every time an estimate is declined or job is cancelled --> so you can easily track this historically.
Build ops summaries
🗓️ Create automatic calendar events
Automatically create events in Google or Outlook calendars:
Payment collected? Create a calendar event, creating an accounts receivable calendar view.
Move completed? Schedule a follow-up calendar reminder
🧩 Other ideas
Add new leads as contacts to RingCentral or your VoIP system for future calling ease
If a move is booked for a commercial customer, notify specialty teams or partners.
Start referral partner notifications automatically (e.g., realtor gets update when their client’s move is booked or completed).
How to do it (real step by step examples below)?
Make sure the feature is on. You should see it under Settings > Webhooks. If you don't see it, contact support@chariotmove.com.
Under Settings > Webhooks, create the webhook of interest. Create an automation in Zapier or Make.com to "catch" the webhook and trigger an action. Publish the automation!
