Open and Click Tracking is not part of the SMTP email protocol. In other words, it's not something the recipients email service provider sends back to us so it's not 100% accurate. In order to get this data we need to go about it a different way. In short, here is how it works:
How Open Tracking Works
Open tracking lets you see if someone has opened your email. Here's how it works in plain terms:
A Tiny Picture: A very small, invisible picture is included in your email.
Email Opened: When someone opens the email, their email app downloads this tiny picture.
We Get Notified: This download tells the email system that your email has been opened.
Things to Know:
If someone’s email app blocks pictures, it might not track the open.
Some email apps check for pictures ahead of time, which might say the email was opened even if it wasn’t.
How Click Tracking Works
Click tracking shows you if someone clicks on a link in your email. Here’s how it works:
Links are Changed: Before your email is sent, the links are updated so they pass through the email system first.
Click Happens: When someone clicks the link, they briefly go through Check Cherry's system.
We Record: The system notes the click.
They Go to the Website: After the system tracks the click, the person is sent to the original website.
Things to Know:
Some security programs might click links automatically to check if they’re safe, which can cause false reports.
People might notice that the link looks different and feel unsure about clicking it.
Email tracking is enabled by default in your Check Cherry account. If you wish to disable it (we strongly recommend you keep it enabled), you can do so by going to Manage --> Business Settings and click Edit Settings.
