While it may seem obvious, it's so important to wear clothing (and shoes!) that you feel comfortable and confident in! Keep in mind that you'll be moving around and walking during your photo shoot, and your comfort is the key to great photos!
We've put together a list of suggestions to help you choose clothing that will be more flattering and lend to timeless photos that you can enjoy for years to come!
Clothing we DON'T recommend wearing for your photo shoot:
Fabic with busy or large patterns - Tend to distract from your face.
Fabric with cartoon characters - Tend to distract from your face.
Bright or neon colors - Tend to distract from your face, and can often reflect onto your skin in unflattering ways.
Branded clothing - Best to avoid, unless your photo shoot is for a clothing brand.
Stiff fabrics - Tend to fold and crease in unflattering ways.
Uncomfortable shoes - Don't forget about socks too, they will probably show!
Short skirts, dresses, shorts, or sleeves - Choose clothing you can move freely and comfortably in.
Loose fitting or baggy clothing - Watch out for this in shirts and dresses.
Tight fitting clothing - May show undergarment lines, restrict you from moving freely, and may cling in unflattering ways.
Shirts too short for torso - A test to see if a shirt is too short is if you lift your arms and your stomach shows.
Floppy hats or baseball hats - Can create unflattering shadows on your face, or block your eyes.
Large or bulky accessories or too many accessories - Tend to distract from your face.
Clothing we DO recommend wearing for your photo shoot:
Dress for the weather.
Layers are your friend!
Simple makeup, accessories, hair, and nails.
If being photographed with multiple people (Family Photo Shoot or Couples Photo Shoot), you may want to coordinate colors.
Solid colors, whether warm-toned (browns, etc) or cool-toned (grays/blues/blacks, etc) or simple patterns.
Comfortable shoes and socks.
Clothing you can move freely and comfortably in!
Other Tips:
Before the photo shoot: lay out your outfit(s) on your bed. If your eye is drawn to anything in particular, that's a sure sign it will stand out in the photo as well. Best to swap that item out for something else!
During the photo shoot: keep keys and wallets out of your pockets to avoid bulky pockets.
Relax and have fun!
Remember, these are just our suggestions on building outfits that help create timeless and flattering photos! Ultimately, it's important that your images best represent you and your style!
