Creating a Coupon Code

What are Discount Codes?

Discount codes allow you to offer attendees a reduced ticket price when purchasing tickets for your event.

Discount codes are created and managed directly within your Stripe Dashboard and can be applied during the checkout process on your Circolo ticketing page.

Before You Start

Because Circolo manages your ticket checkout process, you will not see products listed in your Stripe account.

This is completely normal and does not prevent you from creating discount codes.

To access Stripe:

  • Go to Settings > Account & Billing in Circolo

  • Click "View in Stripe Dashboard"

This will open your connected Stripe account where discount codes can be managed.

Step 1: Create a Coupon

A coupon is the discount itself. Before attendees can enter a discount code at checkout, you must first create a coupon in Stripe.

To Create a Coupon:

  • Open your Stripe Dashboard

  • Click Product Catalogue in the left navigation menu

  • Select the Coupons tab

  • Click "Create Coupon"

Enter the coupon details:

Coupon Settings

Name

  • Enter a clear internal name

  • Examples:

    • EARLYBIRD

    • VIP2026

Type

  • Percentage Off (e.g. 10%)

  • Fixed Amount Off (e.g. $10.00)

Duration

  • Select Once for a single-use discount per customer

Redemption Limits (Optional)

  • Set an expiry date

  • Limit the total number of times the coupon can be redeemed

Once completed, continue to the Codes section.

Step 2: Enable Customer-Facing Coupon Codes

This is the most important step.

Creating a coupon does not automatically create a code that attendees can enter at checkout. You must enable customer-facing coupon codes.

To Enable Customer-Facing Codes:

  • Scroll to the Codes section at the bottom of the Create Coupon form

  • Toggle on "Use Customer-Facing Coupon Codes"

  • Enter the code attendees will use at checkout

    • Examples:

      • WELCOME10

      • EARLYBIRD25

Important

Do NOT select "Apply to Specific Products".

Circolo does not utilise products within Stripe for ticket sales.

Optional Restrictions

You can also:

  • Add an expiry date

  • Limit the number of times the code can be redeemed

Once configured:

  • Click "Create Coupon"

Your discount code is now live and ready to use.

What Attendees Will See

Once your discount code has been created and activated:

  • Attendees will see an "Add Promotion Code" button during checkout

  • They can enter the code

  • The discount will be automatically applied before payment is completed

Tips for Managing Discount Codes

To ensure your promotions run smoothly:

  • Test your code before sharing it publicly

  • Use redemption limits for limited promotions

  • Add expiry dates for time-sensitive offers such as Early Bird pricing

  • Keep codes short and easy to remember

  • Use expiry dates and redemption limits to prevent overuse

Troubleshooting Discount Codes

If a discount code is not working at checkout, the most common cause is that Customer-Facing Coupon Codes was not enabled during setup.

To check:

  • Open Stripe Dashboard

  • Navigate to Product Catalogue > Coupons

  • Verify that Use Customer-Facing Coupon Codes is enabled for the coupon
