This video covers the functionality outlined in this guide:

Creating Social Streams

Under your Monitoring Launchpad, click on Add A Social Stream listed under the Quick Access options on the top-right of your page to create a new social stream.

Alternatively, you can create a social stream directly in the Social tab with the following options:

Clicking on the + sign next to Listen

Clicking on Add Social Stream on the top-right of your page.

Clicking on Create New Social Stream in the middle of your page.

This will prompt you to create either a Keyword search or Boolean Search.

Building a Social Stream using a Simple Search

Select the ‘Keyword/s’ radio button.

Enter your desired keywords. You can also monitor social pages by including a social handle (Ex. @cision). Clicking all keywords means that every keyword listed MUST appear in the social item to display as a result.

NOTE: Select how your keywords must appear in the content.

Select the Social Platforms you would like to monitor. Select ‘Preview’ to ensure the coverage is relevant and ‘Create a Social Stream from this Search’ to create the social stream.

Add a Name to your Social Stream.

Assign a specific color by HEX or RBG for your social stream if desired.

Select a time frame for this Social Stream to auto-expire if you don't want to keep it permanently.

Select the Group you want your Social Stream to appear within.

Select a mention stream if you’d like to compare it to this social stream under the Analyze tab.

Building a Social Stream using a Keyword Search

We can conduct an Advanced Search by turning on the ‘Advanced Search Options’.

From here, we can build a Social Stream with Keyword/s or a Boolean Query.

Build using Keyword/s has the following options.

‘Must Include All Of These Terms’

‘AND ANY Of These Terms’

‘NOT These Terms’

The lightning icon that appears in each field lets us apply filters to our Boolean search. For example, case sensitivity or coverage by a specific author.

There is a Boolean Query Preview to see your Keyword(s) search as a Boolean Search which can be copied/pasted.

Once your keywords have been entered, use the Across These Social Platforms’ area to select the sources you are interested in monitoring.

Next, click Preview.

When previewing content, a volume timeline graph will display showing the last 30 days of coverage.

The Volume over the last 30 results will appear below the graph, giving you insight into the relevancy of your keywords.

Next, click Create a Social Stream from this search.

From here, we can:

Name our Social Stream

Assign it a Stream Colour

Set an expiry date

Add a Group Label

Link a Mention Stream for comparative analysis.

Building a Social Stream using a Boolean Search

Select the ‘Boolean Query’ radio button.

Enter your desired keywords in the Boolean field.

Preview your results to ensure relevant coverage is being captured.

An in-depth Boolean guide, is available here.

You can use the following operators to build your search:

  • OR - broadens the search to include mentions that contain one or more of the specified keywords. (Ex. apple OR macbook)

  • AND - requires that all keywords listed must exist in the mention (Ex. apple AND macbook)

  • NOT - excludes mentions that contain the keywords listed after the NOT operator (Ex. apple NOT iPhone)

  • An in-depth Boolean guide, is available here.

Sharing Social Streams

You can share individual Social Streams or Groups of Social Streams with any of your teammates with a CisionOne account.

Click on the ‘Cogwheel’ on the top-right of your social stream to open its settings page.

Click over to the ‘Share’ Tab to share a social stream with other members of your team. You can filter by specific users or teams.

When sharing a Social Stream, you can choose to allow either Edit or View access. By selecting Edit, you can give your teammates the ability to edit the keywords and Social Platforms within your Social Stream. Selecting View shares the Social Stream with your teammates without these privileges. This will allow them to view the Social Stream, but not make any changes.

If you’d like to share an entire Social Stream Group, click on the ‘cogwheel’ icon next to the Group Name.

Click over to the ‘Share’ Tab to share the full social stream group with other members of your team. You can filter by specific users or teams.

Tagging Social Items

To tag a social item, click on the ellipses on the top-right of the mention.

Select Tag media Item.

You will then be prompted to create a new Tag or choose from an existing Tag.

Once you have tagged an item, or created a new tag, you will see it appear under the Tagged Media section at the bottom of the sidebar. The tagged folder name will also appear on the social item card for your reference.
