Citera's onboarding collects the context the agent needs to track your brand and start creating content. Most of it is pre-filled by AI from your website, so you mainly review and adjust. The exact screens may vary slightly as the product evolves.
1. Enter your website
Add your domain. Citera reads your site and identifies your brand context. This usually takes 10 to 20 seconds.
2. Set your market
Tell Citera how far your business reaches:
International: anywhere in the world
National: one country
Local: specific cities or regions
This sets the markets used to localize your tracked prompts.
3. Describe your audience and business
Choose the industry and audiences you serve (you can select several).
Review What does your company do? and What makes you unique? Be specific about products, services, target market and differentiators. This helps Citera generate better prompts and content.
4. Add competitors
Citera suggests competitors based on your site and market. Add 3 to 5 direct competitors for the best analysis. You can add more after onboarding.
5. Review your search prompts
Citera generates prompts, the questions buyers ask AI assistants. This usually takes 20 to 40 seconds. Prompts are grouped as:
Branded: mention your brand by name and show how you appear to people who already know you
Unbranded: don't mention your brand and show whether AI surfaces you when someone searches by need
You can edit, remove, paste or import prompts from a CSV. There is a limit on how many prompts you can add during onboarding; you can add more afterwards within your plan limit.
6. Tell us a bit about you (optional)
A few quick questions about your goals, such as ranking in AI search, publishing on autopilot, growing organic traffic or generating leads.
7. Autopilot setup
While you continue, Citera starts preparing your content plan: blog drafts, scheduled social posts and queued website fixes. Initial generation takes around 3 to 5 minutes and keeps running in the background.
8. Choose a plan and start your trial

9. Choose your AI models
Select which AI models to track and optimize for. The number you can choose depends on your plan.
10. Check your first report
Citera runs your first scan and shows how often your brand appears in AI responses. Some pages fill in while the first scan is still running.
After onboarding
Connect your CMS so content can publish (see Integrations overview).
Connect Google Search Console and Google Analytics 4 for traffic data.
Add a default blog author, which is required before blog generation can run.
