How to Create a Polygon and Submit Coordinates for Your Portal?

This guide walks you through how to draw a custom polygon on a map and send the correct coordinate data to our support team so we can update your portal settings.

Written by Jenny Limb

Step 1: Open the Mapping Tool

  1. Navigate to https://geojson.io

  2. Use the search bar to find your desired state, city, or region

  3. You can also manually move around the map by clicking and dragging

Step 2: Navigate to Your Desired Area

  • Zoom in and out using your mouse or trackpad

  • Position the map over the exact area you want to include

Important:
Polygons are highly precise. If you draw around one city, nearby areas (even very close ones) will not be included unless explicitly outlined.

Step 3: Draw Your Polygon

  1. Click the polygon tool icon (it looks like a small shape/flower icon)

  2. Click on the map to start placing points

  3. Continue clicking to create your shape

  4. Click your starting point again (or finish the shape) to close the polygon

Tips:

  • You can create any shape you need

  • Zoom in for more detailed boundaries (even down to one side of a street)

  • Be intentional—only the area inside your polygon will be included

Step 4: Your Polygon

  • Once your shape is complete, your polygon will appear highlighted (typically in green) on the map

Step 5: Copy the Required Coordinates

On the right-hand side, you’ll see a panel with coordinate data.

What to copy:

  • Start at the first set of brackets under "coordinates"

  • Copy everything within the first three bracket levels

  • Stop copying right before the "type": "Polygon" line

This ensures you are only sending the exact polygon coordinate data we need to update your portal setting.

Step 6: Send to Support

Email your coordinates to:

Include:

  • Your polygon coordinate data

  • Any relevant notes about your desired coverage area
