If you’re looking for shared independent living then the first thing to do is contact us by phone. You can call us on 1300 692 484 between 9am and 5pm. You can also email us on enquiries@civic.org.au.

Even if there isn’t a current vacancy, we’re continually sourcing new properties so we may have an opportunity for you. On the phone we’ll ask you a few questions to quickly determine if we’re able to offer you accommodation - if we are, then the next step is to complete some more detailed forms or collate some of your existing documentation such as OT reports. These are necessary to ensure we can deliver the best possible service to you and ensure we offer you the right accommodation.

Once we’ve received all your detailed information, we’ll ask to meet you face-to-face. This may be at the property you’ve applied to live in, or at one of our centres. You’ll meet with a social worker who will spend some time with you getting to know the kinds of supports you might need in your new home, and understanding the goals that you will want to achieve in your new community. Our social worker will also be able to find out what kind of house mates you may want to live with, to ensure your new home is successful and long lasting. At this meeting, you’ll also have the opportunity to meet with a member of the Civic team who can answer any questions you may have about applying for tenancy with Civic. If you need to apply for SIL, we’ll also start to discuss the SIL application and quote at this stage.

If applying for an existing vacancy, this is your chance to see the property you may soon call home, and see if you like the room that will be yours. You’ll get to walk around the property and take a look at the garden, and decide if it’s the one for you.

If you're moving into a vacancy at an existing home there may already be tenants at this property and we will need to ensure you get along. If you're a match for the property, you will have the opportunity to meet with the current tenants - we love barbecues at Civic so may organise a barbecue at the property.

After this meeting, there is some more paperwork to complete, including the SIL Quote if you need to apply for SIL. Once this is completed, it will be sent to the NDIA for approval. If everything is approved, you’ll then be able to start transitioning to your new home, meeting your new house mates and becoming familiar with your new community.
