The Literacy and Numeracy team are seeking casual relief teachers to be available to travel to rural and remote locations for 1-5 days throughout 2024. The role will provide relief to the teachers and teaching principal as part of the virtual model of support. Travel and accommodation will be covered by the Department.

Who can apply:

Teachers and eligible University candidates with current approval to teach Primary (K-6) in NSW (including temporary, casual, and permanent teachers).

Background Information

The virtual model of support for small schools has been developed to ensure students and teachers in schools experiencing challenges recruiting a permanent AP, C&I are not disadvantaged. This involves periodic visits to schools to provide face-to-face (F2F) professional development support. Casual relief will be provided during the F2F school visit to allow teachers to meet with the AP, C&I.

About the role

Expressions of Interest are invited from teachers interested in being added to the pool of casual positions as a K-6 classroom teacher.

Casual teachers will cover classes while the AP, C&I meets with principals and teaching staff in regional, rural and remote TP1 and TP2 schools across NSW.

The successful applicant will have responsibility for teaching across K-6 including multistage classes in various small school settings.

This position requires successful applicants to commit to travel across rural and remote areas of NSW in a supportive role to the AP, C&I.

Note: All travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by the Department of Education, Literacy and Numeracy unit.

Selection criteria

  • Approval to teach K-6, and willingness to teach multistage classes in rural and remote settings.

  • Demonstrated ability to create a positive learning environment through the implementation of effective classroom management strategies.

  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting small schools in regional, rural and remote settings.
