The Read to Lead content library includes over thirty 15-20-minute learning games across four different industries – medical, journalism, pharmacy, and public service. Students can explore their interest in a particular field and play a whole series, or pick and choose games based on their curiosity. You may also assign specific games for your students to play.
In each game, students will take on the role of Boss of a diverse team. They will read approximately 3,500 words, navigate real-world challenges, and complete an authentic workplace task (like editing a project plan). Every game also includes an average of 9 leadership decisions that students must make based on reading closely, evaluating evidence, and thinking critically.
Read to Lead games are designed for youth in grades 5-9. We recommend the Community in Crisis (public service) series for 5th-6th graders, Vital Signs (medical) for 6th-7th graders, Community Pharmacy (pharmacy) for 6-8th graders, and After the Storm (journalism) for 8th-9th graders. All games have a read-aloud option and translation features to support struggling readers and English-language learners in any grade.
Find the right game for your students by exploring the Activities page in your Read to Lead account. Using the filters at the left, you can easily find games aligned to your students’ Lexile level or those aligned to specific reading standards and/or SEL skills. You can also discover games based on the four workplace industries. Once you find a suitable game, click “Try game” to play it or click the “Assign game” button to assign it to specific students or classes.

You can also find the pre- and post-game lesson plans and activities that support each game by hovering over the Supporting Resource of your choice and clicking the file(s) that pops up. As an alternative to this method, you can click on the game tile to reach the series page for that game and find lessons from there.
