If you see something on your credit file that you don’t recognise, it’s important to investigate to ensure everything on your report is accurate. Here’s what to do:

  1. Review details: Start by looking at the unfamiliar item’s details. Sometimes, company names or descriptions on your credit file can look different from what you’d expect. For instance, some businesses appear under their parent company names.

  2. Think back on recent activity: Consider any recent credit activity, such as new accounts, credit checks, or even subscription services. These might show up on your report differently than you expect.

  3. Contact the Credit Reference Agency: If you still don’t recognise it, reach out to the credit bureau that provided your report. They can give you more information about the entry and guide you on next steps.

There are three main Credit Reference Agencies in the UK.
