Passkeys

Use your device's own lock as the second step at sign-in: add a passkey, sign in with it, and remove one you no longer use.

A passkey is your device's own lock, such as Touch ID, Face ID or a security key, used as the second step when you sign in. There is nothing to type. You still enter your password first, and passkeys are optional.

Add a passkey

  1. Press your picture at the bottom of the side menu and choose Profile. On a phone, open the side menu first with the menu button at the top left.

  2. Under Sign-in security, press Register a passkey. Once you have one, it says Manage passkeys.

  3. If Confirm your password appears, enter your password and press Continue.

  4. Under Name this passkey, give it a name you will recognise, such as the device it is on. Each passkey needs a name of its own.

  5. Press Register passkey and follow your device's prompt.

The passkey then appears under YOUR PASSKEYS, marked Synced passkey or Device-bound. A device-bound passkey stays on that one device or security key, so add one for each device you sign in from. If the prompt fails, the page says why, with Try again.

Sign in with a passkey

  1. Sign in with your email address and password as usual.

  2. On Confirm it's you, press Use passkey and follow your device's prompt.

If you also have an authenticator app, you choose first: pick Passkey and press Continue. Having both gives you a second way in if one device is lost.

A passkey also answers Confirm your password, the check before a change to how you sign in: press Use my passkey. See Sign in and two-factor authentication.

Remove a passkey

  1. In Profile, press Manage passkeys.

  2. Press the bin beside the passkey, and confirm.

Remove the passkey of a device you have lost or given away. If you remove your last passkey and have no authenticator app, signing in goes back to your password alone.
