Can the BEE be used for SBTI?

SBTI requirements for businesses with fewer than 500 employees require Scope 1 and 2 reduction targets. Scope 3 emissions have to be measured, and you have to promise to reduce them, but it is not quantitative. Measurement of Scope 1 and 2 has to follow GHG Protocol, which the BEE does, including market and/or location based reporting, which we do. They have a 95% materiality threshold requirement, which we also adhere to. They want people to measure and disclose annually, which we also do.

One point of consideration is that you would have to go back and compile an additional year of data to create a baseline (2019-2021) before doing your 2022 certification. From our side, that's not an issue. So in general, there is strong (intentional) alignment between what we do and SBTI.
