How to Set & Use Home Directory

Written by Daniela Camargo

CloudSee Drive Home Directory lets you set a default landing folder so every login takes you straight to the files you work with most. Instead of navigating through buckets and folders each time, your drive opens directly to your chosen folder β€” saving clicks and getting you to work faster.

This guide walks you through how to set, change, or clear your own Home Directory, and how admins can set a Home Directory on behalf of another user. Home Directory preferences are user-specific and apply automatically on every login.

Sign In to CloudSee Drive

  1. Access CloudSee Drive: Open your browser and navigate to CloudSee Drive.

  2. Sign In: Enter your credentials and select the Sign In button to access your CloudSee Drive dashboard.

Open Your Profile Settings

  1. Click the Profile Icon: In the top-right of the dashboard, select the profile icon to open the account dropdown.

  2. Select Profile: Choose Profile from the dropdown to open your account details.

Set Your Home Directory

  1. Locate the Home Directory Section: Scroll to the Home Directory section within your Profile.

  2. Open the Folder Picker: Select Set to launch the Select Home Directory modal.

  3. Confirm Your Drive: Use the drive selector at the top of the modal to confirm or change the drive you want to set the Home Directory in.

  4. Select a Top-Level Folder: Click any folder in the list (e.g., Dogs) to select it. The breadcrumb at the bottom of the modal updates to reflect your selection.

  5. Expand a Folder: Use the right arrow (β€Ί) on a folder row to view its subfolders.

  6. Select Your Target Folder: Click the folder you want to use as your Home Directory (e.g., Puppies).

  7. Save Your Selection: Select Save to confirm. A success message confirms the Home Directory has been set.

Verify Your Home Directory

  1. Return to the Dashboard: Click the CloudSee logo in the top-left to return to the dashboard.

  2. Confirm the Landing Folder: Your drive now opens directly to the folder you selected.

  3. Check on Next Login: Sign out and back in to confirm CloudSee Drive lands on your Home Directory automatically.

Clear Your Home Directory

  1. Open Your Profile: Click the profile icon and select Profile from the dropdown.

  2. Select Clear: In the Home Directory section, click Clear to remove your current selection.

  3. Confirm the Removal: A success message confirms your Home Directory has been cleared. CloudSee Drive will return to its default landing behavior on your next login.

Admins Can Set a User's Home Directory

  1. Open Account Settings: Click the profile icon and select Account Settings from the dropdown.

  2. Navigate to Users: Open the Users section to view the list of users in your tenant.

  3. Select a User: Find the user you want to configure and open their profile.

  4. Open the Folder Picker: Scroll to the Home Directory section and select Set to launch the Select Home Directory modal.

  5. Choose a Folder: Navigate the folder tree and select the target folder for the user.

  6. Save the Selection: Select Save to confirm. The user will land in that folder on their next login β€” no setup required on their end.

  7. Update or Clear Anytime: Use Change or Clear within the user's profile to adjust their Home Directory as roles or projects evolve.

Home Directory Behavior

  • Applies on Every Login: CloudSee Drive opens directly to your Home Directory each time you sign in.

  • User-Specific: Each user's Home Directory is private to their account.

  • Self-Set Indicator: When you set your own Home Directory, the section displays a Self-set badge to distinguish it from one assigned by an admin.

  • Updates Take Effect Immediately: Changing or clearing your Home Directory applies on your next login.
